Studies in the field of glycomics aims to create glycan profiles of organisms. Glycans, which can be described as the total glucose complexes that are produced by cells under certain conditions (time, environment, etc.), are known to play a role in almost all biological processes (from intracellular communication to tumor development).  It is important to investigate the changes in glycan structure and metabolism in combination with information from genomics and proteomics in order to prevent certain diseases, track disease development and progression and even create new therapeutic approaches.
